Update on Our Search for a Site in Lismore
We can report some very good news with regard to a site for the community farm. At the Lismore City Council meeting last Tuesday, 9th June, a motion was passed to support the establishment of the community farm at a site in Brewster Street, subject to the successful completion of a community consultation process. This process has commenced and submissions to Council close on 25th June, 2009. It would be really great if you were able to make a brief submission to Council expressing support for the project.
The site is in Brewster Street, adjacent the pre-school building and near the netball courts. It is very central and well served by public transport. The soil is quite heavy clay but this provides part of the challenge and we intend to establish raised beds. A concept design for the farm is being prepared.
Importantly, as part of the community consultation,a public meeting is being held this Saturday, 20th June, between 10 am and 12 noon at the site. It will be an information session rather than a presentation and there will be fact sheets available.
Our project officer, Linda Wirf, site manager, Carla Tipping, members of the committee as well as Phil Dudman will be there to answer questions, discuss the concept plan and other issues you may like to raise. If you can make it, please drop by on Saturday morning and check out the site, have a chat and a cup of tea.
